On this fine November day, my boat and I did our best 'packet boat' imitation, as we plied the waters between Pine St. on the Assabet River and Lee's Bridge on the Sudbury River. After launching, I paddled upriver a bit and encountered a tire/wheel combination stuck behind a blowdown (near Thoreau School). I towed it to a sandbar in order to secure it on my deck. Sure enough, there was another tire up on the sandbar... actually somebody's old retread. The tire/wheel set was probably the nicest looking tire to ever grace my boat's deck. I'm left to wonder how it ended up in the river.
With the freight secured we began our downriver route. Just below the commuter rail bridge we encountered this tree blown down across the full width of the river...
There was just enough room on the far right to squeeze under.
Where the river runs closest to Barretts Mill Rd., this injured wood duck was seen...
He was unable to fly and appeared to have a bad leg as well.
By the time we reached Egg Rock, a fair number of passengers had boarded. They stretched their legs, hullside, while the tires were dropped off at the Town of Concord DPW facility...
Now, ascending the Sudbury, we soon peeked out from under Elm Street...
At Heaths Bridge we took on fuel and more passengers. The day was really getting warm.
Near Martha's Point, this red-tailed hawk watched our upriver progress...
Finding ourselves way ahead of schedule, a short siesta was taken at Brooke Island in Fairhaven Bay...
Conditions in the bay were idyllic and there was only one other boater to be seen...
Arrival at Lee's Bridge was right on our noontime schedule and all passengers disembarked...
This Sudbury River patrol had 18 pieces of trash: 9 recyclable containers (3 redeemable) and 9 pieces of miscellaneous rubbish.
The earlier Assabet River patrol had 23 pieces of trash: 13 recyclable containers (3 redeemable) and 10 pieces of miscellaneous rubbish such as tires, styrofoam, and plastic. YTD total = 6478
Ridership numbers have now exceeded last year!

Your ridership count makes the transit authority jealous. Guess your fare rates are more attractive and you go to your riders. Now that is service!
