NHAMC Trash Patrol in Nashua

Trash paddled yesterday with the New Hampshire Appalachian Mountain Club Paddlers in Nashua, NH.  The trash patrol, organized and led by Denise Hurt, had kayakers and canoeists combing the river's nooks and crannies for the stuff that doesn't belong there.  We gathered up 90 recyclable containers and 94 pieces of rubbish which included a car's bucket-seat, a seat cushion, old pipe, old buckets, and a bicycle.

Some photos:
One group went downriver...
...while others worked their way upriver...

One piece required the cargo capacity of a bigger boat...
... which was provided by Julia's Old Town Osprey, a versatile craft which could be paddled or rowed...

At one point this chipper little fellow offered to lead the way...

The city of Nashua has done a nice job of drawing folks attention to the river that was once its lifeblood between Mine Falls and Jackson Falls...

The group's next trash patrol will be on the Merrimack River...first Saturday in July.
