Assabet's Fort Meadow Exit
The beavers in Fort Meadow Brook have substantially upgraded their dam downstream of the old Mass Central RR trestle. In the past I was able to push up and over the flimsy structure. Not so today.
I had launched earlier at Magazu's Landing in Stow and headed upriver on the Assabet. After about a mile and a half I detoured off of the river proper and entered Fort Meadow via the box culvert. Rains over the last few days brought the water level to a near perfect level for taking the tunnel...
...without having to duck.
Today was a beautiful day to be out on the river and brook. Bright blue skies, warm temperatures (but not hot), and a pleasant westerly breeze.
This blue heron appeared stately...
These beer cans someone had impaled on branches did not...
I reached Rock Bottom (aka Gleasondale) at about the same time as two other kayakers, Joe Winn and Keith Warren. Unfortunately the photo I took of them didn't come out. They had launched at Ice House Landing and paddled the entire 5-mile distance before turning about and heading downriver. Having only recently taken up kayaking they appeared very proficient in handling their new boats.
My trash haul for the day also enjoyed a brief respite at Rock Bottom...
There were 27 recyclable containers (15 redeemable) and 15 pieces of miscellaneous rubbish including an escapee from a Ducky Race. YTD = 4254

Looks like you found a good amount of Gatorade/Powerade bottles. There is a lot of plastic in those bottles. If only there was some incentive to recycle them.
