Early AM on the Assabet

Got out on the Assabet River in Stow early this morning to find things a bit foggy (almost like "The River of Dreams").

Came upon a family of sleeping swans...
...that soon awoke and moved along...

Further along was another swan family...

Wood ducks were also seen...

At the box culvert leading to Fort Meadow Brook beavers are working to block the passage...
...while inside the culvert, on the right wall the occupant of small swallow nest was receiving a food delivery...

Yellow flag was plentiful...

While scouting a possible portage I came across this contraption...
...that once used a 4-cylinder engine to rotate a screened drum...for what purpose I have no idea.  Note the small wheel with wood spokes...

Very little trash was encountered today...
...but did include the first "Best Damn Root Beer" can I've ever seen.
