Local waters are always seen in a new light after a visit to those further afield. The Sudbury River at Lee's Bridge couldn't have looked better than it did this past Thursday. The same could be said for the Assabet River on Tuesday and Sunday where an explosion of green was the theme...
It is a little strange having experienced summer-like conditions in western Maine and then seeing a slide back to an early-spring feel around here...from sandals in Maine to Boundary Boots back here.
A busy time for wildlife continues. A light-footed deer seen along the Sudbury...
...mute swans on the Assabet...
...a proud mother duck on the Assabet...
Thanks to Friday night's heavy rains dry real estate on the Assabet was at a premium on Sunday morning...
Trash was light to non-existent on Tuesday and Thursday......until the rainfall caused this uptick on Sunday...
Congratulations to the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Maine upon getting Pine Island in Big Lake back under tribal control. According to an article in today's Boston Globe written by Charlie McKenna this island was provided to them by treaty in return for having helped the colonists in the Revolutionary War. Somehow, perhaps simply through changing the island's name, it was sold to non-tribal entities. When it recently came on the real estate market the Passamaquoddy Tribe was able to purchase it with help from organizations First Light and the Nature Conservancy.
