Aftermath on the Assabet

Yesterday I got out on the Assabet River in Stow and paddled through the aftermath of Tuesday's crash.  The crash I'm referring to (lest there be any confusion) is a small ultralight airplane having crashed into the river shortly after taking off from nearby Crow Island.  News reports said the pilot was able to get out of the craft and make it to shore with injuries which weren't life-threatening...a fortunate thing.

This group of mute swans probably witnessed much of what occurred...
...but they weren't talking.

So, I was left to ponder things by myself as I paddled down to Ben Smith Dam and back.  The only indications of the crash I saw were several floating pads which had been deployed to absorb fuel from the aircraft, and some small pieces of wood and plexiglass.

Elizabeth Brook was still contributing a good flow to the river...
...but things looked a bit on the dreary side at Ben Smith Dam...

The afternoon's trash haul...

Plenty to mull over.
