Fighting "Mum Nature" in Canada

While visiting Paddling.net today I saw mention of a recent canoe race on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec City.  On You Tube I enjoyed this account of the event.  It left me wanting to jump in my car and drive to the nearest Tim Hortons!

Hey Al - we should get one of those canoes and round up a few friends to paddle it. I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with all these iced up rivers.

Erik, Sure is a wild looking event. Making the transition from pushing the boat across the ice to then jumping in, facing backwards, and rowing looks very tough to me. I tip my hat to the competitors.
I may resort to pulling my kayak across the ice with a pair of climbing axes (at a very slow pace).
