An Assabet Encounter

It was at that point near the end my paddle where I'd reluctantly turned about and begun the trip upriver to the takeout.  That's when I pulled out of the current and into an eddy for a last sip of water and a moment of reflection.  Out of the corner of my eye the motion of an approaching white-tailed deer was detected.  First just one but then a second following a short distance behind.  The first was a 6-point buck and the second an 8-point buck.

The 8-pointer became aware of my presence...

...and shortly his smaller cohort both saw and approached me for a closer look...

They stayed in the area for awhile watching me as I took snaps of them with my camera...

Eventually the two bucks disappeared into the trees and I headed to the takeout all the richer for the eye-to-eye encounter.  Thus concluded a week in which two sections of the Assabet River were savored.  It was also a week with a snowstorm, full moon, Halloween, and a time-change.  Some photos:
