A Journey Resumed

This morning I returned to Pine Street (at left), the point where I exited yesterday's Rhode Island Canoe and Kayak Association trip from Acton to Concord, and resumed my downriver passage.

The day was a splendid one and water levels are still at an ideal level...

At the Lowell Road Boat Launch I went ashore and spent a few hours collecting signatures for expanding the Massachusetts Bottle Bill to include non-carbonated containers...

Spending that much time at the very busy boat launch had me seeing a wide variety of vessels.  However, it was an unexpected surprise to see this unique vessel being backed towards the river...
The vessel's interior...

The young man who built this dugout (from a pine tree) and 5 of his friends were preparing to launch it for the 2nd time.  After working out some seating height issues, they headed downstream on the Concord River with the builder in the bow seat...
...his traditional vision realized, perhaps.

It must have made quite a sight passing under the Old North Bridge.

Another unconventional vessel seen today was this 2-piece modular kayak...
...which eliminates car rooftop-carrying issues.

The day's trash haul...

There were 41 recyclable containers (18 redeemable) and 43 pieces of miscellaneous rubbish such as plastic bags and Styrofoam.  YTD = 2689
