Assabet's Little Brown Jug

The brief bump-up in water level the Assabet River received a week or two ago is long gone as can be seen in the photo at left.  The Egg Rock inscription now has a green lawn at its base.

I paddled the Assabet for only a short distance this morning before running out of water deep enough to stay off the bottom.  After turning about, I saw what looked like a bait tub...and with my paddle-blade, lifted out this still intact beehive-style stoneware jug...
It measures 6" tall and 4.5" in diameter.  Holds about 36 ounces and has the original cork.  Can't quite discern the maker's mark on the jug's bottom.  Might've held molasses or perhaps a little whiskey.

Spent the rest of my morning on the Concord River which proved deep enough...barely.

A lone Red Coat was seen guarding the Old North Bridge's east end...

Further down the Concord the spot where Sawmill Brook used to enter the river...

The trash du jour...

Lovely little jug! Hope one like that comes my way on one of my paddles! Diana
