Little Bridge's Big Weekend

Shortly after launching from the Calf Pasture in Concord yesterday morning I was reminded that things were afoot around these parts by a procession of marchers following an American Flag across the Lowell Road bridge (at left).

After a quick check of the water level at the Egg Rock inscription...
...I headed down the Concord River to the Old North Bridge...

...which will be a very busy place for the next few days.

The statue of the Minute Man stood at the ready just west of the bridge...
...where the Minute Men and Militias assembled on April 19, 1775.  At the bridge's opposite end the British troops securing the bridge were stationed.  Yesterday tourists and present-day Minute Men mingled...
...and not a single Redcoat was seen.

Monday morning will see a re-enactment of the battle between British regulars and Colonial militia that occurred here 241 years ago.

The top of nearby Punkatasset Hill seen here in the distance...
...might provide a grand view of the re-enactment.

The large willow tree by nearby Monument Street dwarfed both the bridge and adjacent dwelling...

Meanwhile, upstream of Egg Rock and on the Assabet River some of the old outlet structure from Macone's Pond could be viewed...

Aquatic trash recovered between Buttrick's Hill and Willow Island was stowed away to insure it wouldn't fall into the hands of the Redcoats...
