It's Officially Here

Got out on the Concord River late yesterday morning and heard, for the first time this year, the unmistakable sound of the red-winged blackbird...signaling that spring is sprung!

The water level at the Egg Rock inscription has dropped from last Monday's high point which was above the word "Musketaquid"...

Despite the chill in the air the Old North Bridge looked ready for spring...

The willows behind Flint's Bridge are getting yellow...

This overhanging branch sported plenty of buds...

While I didn't encounter any other paddlers, there was this one power boater...

The only place water refused my paddle's blade was in this slough...

Otherwise, the Concord River looked wide open at Davis Hill...

Unfortunately, not all animals (my guess would be a white-tailed deer) made it through the winter...

Paid a short visit to the lower Assabet's Leaning Hemlocks...
...before landing the day's relatively small haul of trash...
...which included yet another left shoe.
